Tourism numbers climb in 2007 The region played host to 2,385,954 visitors in 2007 - an increase of 2.3% on 2006 - with the number of foreign tourists increasing by 5.6%.
Visitors to Le Marche spent some 1,921 million Euro (3.8% more than the previous year) and stayed for an average of around 7.2 days.
The lion's share of the foreigners who visited Le Marche in 2007 were the 60.786 German visitors, followed by 27,108 British, 23,225 French and 21,480 Dutch.
Of the total vistors, almost 85% were Italian and 15% were foreigners.

Le Marche goes orange The Touring Club Italiano has now awarded 16 of its prestigious "Orange Flag" awards to Marche towns. Of the 119 Bandiere Arancioni Touring given to small inland comuni across Italy in recognition of the quality of what they offer the tourist while not sacrificing the environment, a total of 16 flutter over Marche towns.
The scheme was launched by the TCI, Italy's leading independent tourism association, in 1999 to give an incentive to smaller corners, away from the country's more well-known coastal resorts, who take
their visitors seriously. The marchigiani comuni entitled to fly the flag are, in alphabetical order, Acquaviva Picena, Corinaldo, Genga, Gradara, Mercatello sul Metauro, Mondavio, Montecassiano, Montelupone, Monterubbiano, Ostra, Pievebovigliana, Ripatransone, San Ginesio, San Leo, Sarnano, and Urbisaglia.
