The Choices
As the low productivity of traditional Marche farming methods meets the competition of the 21stC agro-industry, many farmers are now turning to agriturismo for a new source of income. Grants have been made available to convert old farm buildings into inviting apartments and villas, and each year sees a greater choice.

They are often a good idea if you want a comfortable rural base from which to explore your chosen area. They are usually good value for money, particularly if you are a family or group. Many also have pools. In high season, usually from the end of July to the end of August, however, prices do rise. Many of the self-catering apartments or cottages offered by villa hire companies abroad are agriturismo initiatives.
